The Friday market is one of the biggest on the Costa Blanca — over 500 stalls on Avenida Delfina Viudes, next to Parque Antonio Soria. It runs every Friday from 8am to 2pm, all year round including public holidays.

Go between eight and nine
That is when everything is out and you can still walk between the stalls. By eleven in high season it is shoulder to shoulder and the good fruit and veg has gone. They start packing up around half one.
What is actually worth buying
The local produce is the reason to come: seasonal fruit and vegetables, farm cheeses, dressed olives, bread baked that morning, nuts and spices. Noticeably cheaper than the supermarket and better.
The rest is clothing and shoes, bags, sunglasses, household linen and costume jewellery. Quality varies — some stalls are proper traders, others are clearing job lots, so check the stitching before you hand over money. There are also food stalls doing churros and filled rolls if you want breakfast on the way round.
Getting there and parking
It is on the edge of town. There is street parking around it, but after half nine it gets difficult and in summer it gets very difficult. From the centre it is a twenty-minute walk.
From Orihuela Costa, Guardamar or La Mata we run a return transfer with an agreed pick-up time. It works out sensible from three or four people and removes the parking problem, which is the worst part of the whole thing.
Worth knowing
- Bring cash, and small notes. Most stalls do not take cards, and breaking a fifty at eight in the morning does not go down well.
- Bring your own bag. The ones they hand out split under two kilos of fruit.
- Haggling is fine on clothes and jewellery. Not on food.
- Watch your bag. It is crowded and tightly packed — pickpockets work it like any big market.
- Hat and water in summer. There is virtually no shade anywhere on the site.
Common questions
Is it on in winter?
Yes, every Friday of the year including bank holidays. Fewer clothing stalls in winter, but the food side is always there.
Can I pay by card?
At a handful of stalls. Plan on cash.
Is it manageable with a wheelchair or pushchair?
The ground is flat and paved, but the gaps between stalls are tight. First thing it is fine; by mid-morning it is not.
